The first fundraising agent works on the donors that no gift officer manages today

Blackbaud announced Platform for Good at bbcon 2026 on September 29, 2026. The company calls it the first unified operating system for social impact. It has three layers: data, intelligence and action. Blackbaud also announced Lantern, a fundraising language model built with Databricks, and new Agents for Good, which include a Development Agent.

Platform for Good connects Blackbaud products under one shared architecture. Customers do not need to take action to get it. The Data Core combines the Philanthropic Dataset, Blackbaud Institute research and Giving Search. The intelligence layer runs on the Social Impact Signal Graph. The action layer holds AI assistants and workflows with human oversight.

Lantern is a domain-specific language model for fundraising intelligence. Blackbaud built it with Databricks, and it draws on four decades of Blackbaud fundraising data. A TradingView summary says that Lantern will start to power the first capabilities in 2027, inside Raiser’s Edge NXT and Agents for Good.

The Development Agent finds donors that no gift officer manages and engages them. Blackbaud says that this adds fundraising capacity. A Data Health Agent finds data quality problems and sends fixes through a review-and-approve workflow. Finance and Education Agents are in preview. Blackbaud also showed an Accounts Payable Agent.

CEO Mike Gianoni said that the opportunity is to help organizations “unlock more capacity.”

The takeaway

Point the first agent at work that no person does today. Unassigned donors give little now, so an agent that engages them adds capacity and takes no work from a gift officer.

Why it matters for agent-led growth

  • Unassigned records are a safe first market. No personal relationship exists that an agent can damage, and each response is new data about the donor.
  • Clean the data before the outreach. The Data Health Agent proposes fixes for a person to approve. Run that step before any agent sends a message.
  • Domain models raise the standard. Lantern draws on four decades of fundraising data. Nonprofit teams must test general-purpose agents against that standard.
  • Plan around the release dates. Lantern capabilities start in 2027. Pilot the features that are available now, and keep a list of the features that come later.
